The 5 Makeup Trends of 2020 I Want to Try in My Studio

Sofia Schwarzkopf Tilbury, the creative executive of the famous luxury makeup and skincare brand Tilbury, believes that it`s the EYES which are going to be the main focus for makeup this year. And many beauty bloggers, stylists and magazines are confirming it. We can expect a lot of creativity playing with white eye-liner, eye-jewels and embellishments, colder tones, but also some eternal classics such as red lips and moisturized-healthy skin. I`m very curious about these trends and I would like to experiment them together with my MUA at my Photo-Studio in Starnberg.

So let's have a look at them one by one. Some of the used pictures are from Shutterstock.

NON TRADITIONAL WHITE EYE-LINER

Celebrity MUA Patrick Ta, predicts nontraditional eye-liner colours to become more and more popular. "Cream and white eyeliner are going to be huge," he says. It has already appeared on lots of red carpets and runways at the beginning of the year and not only as a straight lash line, but also in more creative floating and freehand versions. Actually it became trendy in 2015 when many celebs experimented with this look and now its back. This scenographic style is perfect for the studio portraiture and I can't wait to try it in some stylized beauty photoshoots. For Senior Portraiture it`s also possible to experiment a bit more and design Keith Haring-like lines telling a certain story.

CLASSIC BLUE OUT OF THE BLUE

After a year-lasting obsession with warmer tones, it's time to cool down and look closer to more blues, purples and green. After all, Pantone announced The Colour the Year 2020, and you can guess…… it's Classic Blue.

“Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.”

I plan to incorporate more blues into my shooting not only through  makeup styling, but also by using color gels for studio lightening, blue tone backdrops and of course a wide selection of studio wardrobe.

STICKY EMBELLISHMENTS

If you're not sticking something on your face, you're not doing it right. This year, it's time to play with stickers and little face-jewel embellishments. Whether you choose a star-shaped patch or a nail sticker, adorning your face with add-ons is a new-decade mood. This joyful trend is perfect for more fashionable and magazine-inspired photoshoots, where we can go far from ordinary and experiment with different looks (like I did in one of my recent photoshoots - the top right picture).

ETERNAL CLASSICS

Of course, eternal, sexy and always elegant classics red lips, in one form or another, pop up on the runways every season. Red rouge can undoubtedly underline every smile and I love to photograph women when they smile. I use it quite often during my Feminine Glamour Shoots, usually passing from more natural tones at the beginning to end-up with perfect and more extravagant red lips. In combination with clean foundation and perfect skin, it will never go out of style. Many of my clients are not used to see themselves with such “aggressive” rouge, but we can always decide to give it a try at the end of the sessions and I can tell you that most of them fall in love with the “bold and daring” new woman in the mirror. And of course passionate red doesn’t stay only in the makeup styling but extends to dresses and accessories. I stopped even counting home many red dresses I have in my studio wardrobe in Starnberg. And to go even further we can also opt for the tone in tone style by introducing red light gels (like you can see on the photo of my beautiful Makeup Artist here bellow).

There is a shade of red for every woman.” ― Audrey Hepburn.

One big thanks goes to Emily London Miller for the portrait of me in an iconic red dress in Paris (last picture).

TRANSPARENCY AND SUSTAINABILITY

It's really great to say that product sustainability is becoming non-negotiable in the beauty industry. Customers are more and more drawn to greener, natural and responsible brands, and being more and more informed are not anymore blindly buying brand with big claims, but requiring proves and certificates. And on the other hand brands are definitely becoming more aware of the impact they are leaving on the earth and most of them are doing their best to reduce it.

My professional MUA is selecting for my clients the best quality makeup and skincare brands for their styling.
